Delight in Effort, Acceptance and Achievement

Principal's Welcome

Welcome to the Botanic Primary School Website. It is hoped you find this useful and informative – but only as an introduction to our ‘naturally integrated’ multi-cultural school that traditionally accepts children from all communities.

A proportion of our intake comprises children of foreign nationals who are studying or lecturing at Queen’s University [QUB]. We welcome this diversity and believe that it assists in the understanding of worldwide religious and social traditions. Botanic Primary School continues to hold the ‘International School Award’ from the British Council; the diversity present within the school being advantageous with regard to complementing the various activities that go towards ensuring we retain this accreditation. Additional help is available for children who have English as a second language. As children develop and learn together, we believe it can be mutually enriching for all concerned.

The school hold various other awards including 5 Green Flags obtained as an Eco School and the prestigious Digital Schools Award for ICT related activity. All of these activities complement our core business - the education of children. We never lose focus of this but believe it can be done in a creative and flexible environment where children feel safe and secure and actually want to attend school. This is all made possible by an enthusiastic and versatile staff who go far beyond what is expected in making the school a welcome and purposeful environment.

Botanic Primary is best experienced through a visit and prospective parents are welcome to communicate with the school and arrange an appointment. As a school who had a very successful inspection with the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) in 2012 the details of which can be found at;

The ETI have now accredited us to look after our own self-evaluation / sustained improvement which is monitored every 3 years. Their latest Sustaining Improvement Report (June 2018) can be found at;

Now into my second decade at this school, I am delighted that we have just been announced on the list of schools that will undergo extensive refurbishment. This will allow us space for creativity and enhancement of our school building which is important...but not a main focus, as our school is a community and much more than a building!
